Travis AFB AirExpo 2008 Display & Campout
Fairfield, CA August 29-31

NOTE: this has been updated August 26. Summary of additions are:

1. Use Main Gate Friday, Hospital Gate Sat.-Sun. or possibly Main Gate after hours. Access either via Air Base Parkway, an I-80 exit. The Hospital Gate is just prior to the Main Gate. Once inside, take Travis Ave. all the way to a 'Y', bear right on 3rd St. to get to the Area of Operation.
2. Maps linked below. Display is near the northeast end of the flight line. Camp is not far away, just east-northeast of the museum at E St. and Hospital Drive, near Bidwell St.
3. We are invited to parties with food Friday and Saturday night. I will give you the passes. Location is the Museum at E St.@ 3rd.
4. Fitness Center is for showers. Your pass will allow entry. See the directions and map link below.
5. Sat-Sun. lunch meal tickets will be provided. Breakfasts on you. Burger King is on base.
6. Camp stoves OK in camp, no open fires.
7. Remember to deactivate firearms by pulling firing pin or trigger. No knives or bayonets.
8. Prepare for sun, heat, and wind and you won't be caught short.
9. This is a STATIC DISPLAY during weekend show hours. Plan to be in place at 8:30 am.

And the rest of the story:
We have been invited to participate in this open house event at one of the nation's busiest Air Force logistics bases. The show will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team, the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, many other modern military performers and static displays, vintage warbirds, and the highlight - vintage military vehicles! Tell your friends this event is FREE to the public. Show info is at http://www.travisairshow.com

This is a static MV display on the flight line for the Saturday and Sunday show. Arrival on Friday is recommended to avoid show-day morning traffic and also because many of the performer aircraft arrive Friday and that's fun to watch. There will also be Friday evening social activities. Overnight campers should plan for dry tent/truck/RV camping at the air base. Showers in the fitness center. Lunches will be provided for us both days and dinners Friday and Saturday, which might me more like hors d' oeuvres events. Breakfasts are on us. Single day participants are very welcome, just plan to be at Travis before 0800 and check our website or call me for directions and details. As of this writing, we will be using the Hospital Gate off Air Base Parkway. This is just before the main gate. This could change. Understand that if you arrive via Air Base Parkway along with the general air show traffic on Saturday or Sunday morning it may be difficult (but not impossible) for you to access the flight line and our display.

MOST IMPORTANT: If you think you will be staying overnight with us at Travis AFB, OR to arrive any time Friday even if commuting, you MUST send me:
1. Your FULL NAME(S) - all in your party
2. Social Security numbers OR military I.D. numbers for CLETS criminal background checks.
3. Date of birth
4. When you plan to arrive and number of days planned, for meal ticket planning
And for my info:
5. MV type you plan to bring
6. Your phone number and e-mail in case we need to broadcast something important.

If you are going to commute Saturday or Sunday we don’t need your ID number but we need to put your name on 'The List' to expedite your entry prior to 0800. If you decide to come at the last minute and have not submitted your info, I recommend going for it.

I need to submit names ASAP. Please contact me via e-mail or phone me at 415-713-1601. Alternatively you can contact MVCC V.P. Sonny Hanson.

Click here to view a map showing display and camp locations. Travis Ave. is the horizontal blue line. It comes in from the Main Gate which is off Air Base Parkway (I-80 exit). Display location is the red "X", camp is the blue "X" just east-northeast of the Museum. Access the ramp via a gate near the building across from the Museum.

Here is a link to a map showing some Travis features including the Fitness Center (showers), open to 10 pm Friday, 7 am to 6 pm on weekend. 550 Travis Ave., Bldg 550. Next to the Delta Breeze Club:
